Deviation Actions
Some artists are very fortunate and have the ability to sketch, draw, and paint. This takes them from a blank piece of paper or canvas to the finished product without a hitch in the process. But other artist’s abilities are compartmentalized. Some are great at drawing while others are great at painting or coloring. This is fantastic if you come across a great team of artist’s to work with but can be frustrating when you want to start and finish something of your own.
If you sketching and drawing skills are a little weak there are some great tools to help you out:
1) Photoshop Sketch Action (a MUST see) - mohammed6651.deviantart.com/ar… There are a lot of ways to alter a photograph to resemble a sketch. Mohammed6651 has made this process into one easy Photoshop Action. After adding the Sketch Action to your Photoshop simply choose a picture and press the action button. Presto! You have a light grey sketch to get you started. This works best with pictures with a lot of contrast or ones that do not have large areas of black. If you use this tool choose images that are in the public domain or are stock images and strive to make the artwork your very own. Please remember other artist’s rights.
2) Human Anatomy Reference Collection – artistshospital.deviantart.com… Another deviantArt member, ArtistsHosital, keeps an excellent list of human anatomy reference links. You will find a tutorial for anything and everything related to the human body.
If you know of other Sketch tools for Gimp, Illustrator, ect. Please let us know!

A Submission Rule Reminder
We have been getting some very beautifully painted submissions lately that had to be turned down because they were not side-by-sides or a collection of shots showing the art in progress. I know it's hard to keep all the different groups and their rules straight when you are trying to get your work seen, so here is a quick reminder of what we accept.
1) What can I submit?
Art should be a side-by-side view of your sketch or line art and your finished piece. Just have a look in our galleries for examples of this. If you have several shots of your progress from start to finish please combine them and submit them to the correct folder!

Basic Background Idea 2: Walls
You don’t always need an intricate background or painted scene to showcase your painting or coloring. Another great idea to fill in that boring white space behind your character is a wall. These can be as varied as you want them to be, but the most successful ones include a few common elements.
Simplicity:
Backgrounds should not detract from the character. They are an element that enhances the scene. You wouldn’t stay interested in a book that spent pages describing a normal house and only a paragraph about the people inside it, would you?
Style:
The type of wall or panel is going to be determined by the character. How are t
